The History of the Go-Getters Circle
Our group was established to form
a closer bond among its members, and thus, a closer circle of
fellowship within the church. Members look out for one another and
try to bring out the “best” in everyone. Dedicated to financially
supporting Plymouth initiatives, the Go-Getters Circle has become
one of the most reliable, steadfast, enduring and largest
fundraising auxiliaries. Proceeds from fundraisers are channeled
directly to the church.
Meetings of the Go-Getters are held on the fourth Sunday of each
month, immediately following the 11 a.m. service. In the past,
meetings recessed during the summer and resumed in the fall with a
popular “Homecoming” dinner. Plymouth members, friends and neighbors
enthusiastically supported this project by purchasing homemade
turkey, ham and chicken dinners, rolls, sweet potato pies and other
desserts. The annual Homecoming reflected a true team effort.
Several of the original members who were stalwart contributors have
gone on to be with the Lord.
The Go-Getters’ most popular fundraiser continues to be the annual
one and two-day bus trips to various points of interest. Select
destinations have included: Stratford, Ontario Entertainment
District; Mackinac Island; Toledo, Ohio; Toronto, Ontario; Chicago,
Illinois, and others. Participants enjoy the excitement and
camaraderie, making it well worthwhile. Annual theater parties and
entertainment nights have also been held at the Music Hall, Fox, Gem
and Repertory Theaters. A March 2006 theater night is planned to see
“Three Mo’ Tenors” at the beautiful Fisher Theater. Throughout the
year, Go-Getters operate a Gift Case featuring small gifts, greeting
cards, household items, custom-made leather Bible covers and other
attractive items. Members rotate serving as hostesses.
We thank each of you for your generous financial contributions. Your
tax-deductible donation of $40 or more to our African American
History project will, as always, be used to support church programs.
You can count on the Go-Getters Circle to annually lead Plymouth’s
African American History Month Observance. We recognize that People
with no past, have no future.
Thank you, and may God richly bless you!
